I get to the gym at the Goldilocks Time, after the morning shift and before the afternoon kids show up. Which means I can access an elliptical machine and pedal my routine. I'm tired and it's too hot. Yes, there's a/c but it's not arctic cold. I don't even get close to 2.8 but at least I managed a decent amount of pull-up reps. There's three other people in the Aerobics Room doing their own routines. It might just be the timing but they leave fairly soon. I do an abbreviated core routine because I'm short on time and still need to shower and change. And there's road work. I feel bad for the two people who have been tasked with standing in the blistering sun with traffic flags since the traffic lights are now endlessly blinking yellow. They are covered from head to toe in sun-protective long sleeve shirts and pants, gloves, and big brimmed hats with neck drapes.
One middle aged guy shows up just as I dropped down to do push-ups. I have seen him once before doing some basic moves on a mat close to the pile of mats in the corner. I think he's intimidated, because he leaves without doing any exercises. Not my problem. Honestly, if you're going to the gym to exercise, you can't be worried about other people or what they might think of you, because they probably haven't even noticed you. Seriously. I notice people because I don't want to get in their way, or them getting in my way. That's all.I picked my kid up from work around 1 pm and since camp has been cancelled, I tell them we can go to the park parking lot and they can get a feel for my car. There's surprisingly a lot of cars and people at the park though, but enough empty spots for my kid to drive around and pull into a parking spot, drive through again, circle around, back up, straighten the car. My car is very responsive and it takes some getting used to, especially compared to the car the driving school uses. I drive us back home because he's not ready to take my car on the road yet, and backing into our driveway is really tricky.
The driver's seat needs a lot of adjusting and when the lesson is over, I'm not sure I can get the seat back to where it was comfortable for me. After all, it is a 15 year old car. I think the motor to adjust the height of the seat no longer works now. I might have to revert back to using a firm cushion to raise me higher in the seat. Better than a telephone book, I guess. Especially since I don't think those massive tomes exist anymore.
I just read an article from 2017 entitled "To Delay Death, Lift Weights". Seems about right. But I'm preaching to the choir, right? It IS keeping us all young though. Right?
